Home Cook Dishes

These are some of the dishes prepared by my dad. Hehe... I just want to keep the images and some information of the dishes on this blog. It's just amazing that guys like him are good at this. But sadly, I don't know much about cooking. Haha... The words inside the bracket indicate the language used to pronounce the name of the dish. And for the description of the ingredients, they're not that detailed and complete though.

Name: Rice
Description: Usually it's our main dish. 
Complementary with other dishes

Name: Kangkung (Malay)
Description: Water spinach (I guess lol) 
with soy sauce, chicken meat, and garlics

Name: Eok Zai Ke (Hokkien)
Description: Also known as Chinese herbal 
chicken soup. Consists of chicken thigh and 
breast with Chinese herbs

Name: Choi Sum with Kai Yok (Cantonese)
Description: Chinese cabbage or flowering 
white cabbage with chicken meat, 
soy sauce, and ginger

Name: Fried Eggs
Description: This one is a bit over 
fried. LOL but it's still nice

Name: Sui Kam Dao Iu (Hokkien)
Description: Lime juice with soy souce 
and sugar. Complementary with some 
other dishes

Name: Chicken Stew
Description: Consists of chicken breast 
and thigh, sliced (picture) or mashed 
potatoes and fried onions

Name: Omelette
Description: Beaten eggs fried with 
onions and then folded

Name: Kali Hu (Hokkien)
Description: Fish curry cooked with 
long beans (homegrown, hehe), garlics, 
anchovy, curry leaves, sliced tomatoes, 
and spices

Name: Hard-Boiled Eggs
Description: This one is easy to prepare. 
Just boil it slowly for 10-15 mins! xD

Name: Hein Cai (Hokkien)
Description: Spinach with garlics. 
The methods for cooking this dish are a 
bit similar in preparing the Kangkung dish

Name: Chicken Soup
Description: Chicken thigh and breast 
with sliced potatoes, tomatoes, 
coriander and onions

Name: Bao Choi Fa (Cantonese)
Description: Cauliflower cooked with 
capsicums, snow peas, garlics, carots, 
cucumbers, prawns and chicken meat

Name: Steamed Fish
Description: Fish with shredded ginger, 
capsicums, carrots, cauliflower, spring 
onions, tofu, and snow peas

Name: Kali Ke (Hokkien)
Description: Curry chicken with okras, 
curry leaves, spices, sliced garlics, green 
chillies, onions and hard-boiled eggs

Name: Pickles
Description: It's not really pickle but the 
cucumbers are freshly cut into thin slices 
and mixed with lime juice and sugar

Name: Kiam Cai Bak (Hokkien)
Description: Salted vegetable soup. 
Consists of pork, salted vegetables, 
garlics, tomatoes, tofu, and ginger

Name: Kali Hu (Hokkien)
Description: For this dish, okras are 
added and the curry is more soupy

Name: O Bak (Hokkien)
Description: The letter 'O' is read as 'or'. 
Consists of chicken cooked with sweet 
soy sauce, sliced ginger and cucumber

Name: Char Heh (Hokkien)
Description: Prawns fried with cucumbers, 
eggs, vegetables (don't know what it's 
called in English), and garlics

Name: Tom Yum
Description: Consists of fish, kaffir lime 
leaves, tom yum paste, lemon grass, Thai 
ornamental hot peppers, lime juice, 
onions and okras

Name: Fried Chicken
Description: A funny looking deep-fried 
chicken. LOL too much flour. Goes well 
with chillie sauce and fried chicken soup

Name: Fried Chicken Soup
Description: It's the soup after boiling 
the chicken. A few pinch of salt is added 
for flavour. It's nice to have soup. 
At least the food won't taste too dry

Name: Hou Yau Kai (Cantonese)
Description: Chicken meat cooked with 
oyster sauce, with some sliced ginger

Name: Wong Nga Pak Tong (Cantonese)
Description: Celery cabbage soup with 
some spring onions. Goes well with the 
Hou Yau Kai dish

Name: Mutton Soup
Description: Mutton boiled with old ginger. 
This dish is normally consumed to reduce 
the 'body heat'. The Cantonese term for it is 
Har For', but I'm not so sure about it.

Name: Tim Xun Ha (Cantonese)
Description: Sweet and sour dish. Consists 
of prawns, eggs, cucumbers, spring onion, 
ginger, tomato and chillie sauce

Name: Choi Sum Chow Ha (Cantonese)
Description: Chinese cabbage or flowering 
white cabbage with prawns, soy sauce, 
and ginger

Name: Beefchop
Description: Consists of small pieces of 
beef, tomatoes and onions. It's a bit like
porkchop

Name: Ong Gua Char Heh (Hokkien)
Description: Sliced cucumbers cooked
with prawns and garlics

Name: Siu Bak Choy (Cantonese)
Description: Canton Bak Choy cooked 
with sliced garlics and soy sauce
